If you have the desire to start a fulfilling career that may offer good pay, benefits and working conditions, we’ll provide the training to help you achieve your goals. Saint Louis College of Health Careers’ nursing programs train young people just beginning their working lives and seasoned workers who are seeking career changes or professional improvement.

SLCHC Nursing Courses: High Quality, Hands-On

We offer two nursing programs that feature small classes and hands-on instruction from knowledgeable, experienced teachers:

  • Practical Nursing. Known in some areas as vocational nursing, this program is offered only at the county campus in Fenton, off the Bowles exit of Interstate 44. Our practical nursing courses train students to perform bedside duties such as administering drugs and IV’s, monitoring blood pressure, temperatures and blood glucose levels. A Licensed Practical Nurse works closely with physicians and Registered Nurses and may also be expected to handle some clerical duties.
  • Patient Care Technician. This nursing program includes instruction in phlebotomy, or drawing blood, and electrocardiogram, as well as basic courses in nursing. A certified PCT works closely with patients in helping them with tasks they cannot do themselves such as bathing and eating.

Students who take our nursing courses may be prepared to take the certification test within a year of starting classes. Once certified, you will be in a position for employment in an industry which the U.S. government has forecast strong job growth in the next several years.

Nursing Programs Include Help with Financial Aid, Job Placement

Interested in the health care field but uncertain how to pay for a nursing program? Qualified students may be able to obtain financing for your education through U.S. government programs such as Federal Supplemental Education grants, Federal Stafford Loans, Federal Plus Loans, and Pell Grants. The college cannot guarantee financial aid. The job placement coordinator at Saint Louis College of Health Careers can help you find work opportunities by improving your job interview skills and resume writing. SLCHC also enjoys close ties with local health care employers as sources for more job opportunities. Contact us today for more information on our nursing programs.
