Professional Medical Billing Program, AAS

 

Our medical billing and coding training program titled Professional Medical Billing prepares our graduates to:
•    Administer patients' health information for coding, billing, electronic health records, legal cases, audits, and practice management purposes
•    Organize and manage health information data by ensuring its quality, accuracy, accessibility, and security
•    Understand the legalities of chart management, coding and billing guidelines, and practice management
•    Effectively communicate with physician, medical staff , third party payers, and patients by applying a sociological perspective
•    Challenge the Certified Professional Coders (CPC) examination
Medical Billers & Coders assign a code to each diagnosis and procedure by using coding manuals with an understanding of payers’ and government agencies’ variation of guidelines and rules.  The electronic health record system assists in the code selection through captured and recorded data.   Medical Billers & Coders are skilled to work in a variety of medical facilities and businesses in many different positions to fulfill the reimbursement needs.

This is one of the few health-related occupations in which there is low probability of direct hands-on patient care.  In some areas of this field, there is no direct hands-on patient care.
